NSW Raffle Rules for Communities
In New South Wales, communities can conduct raffles under the Community Gaming Act 2018 and Community Gaming Regulation 2020. Here are the key rules to follow:
Eligibility: Only not-for-profit organizations can conduct raffles or art unions. Charities, sporting clubs, political parties, and trade unions are examples of eligible organizations.
Prizes: Prizes must be clearly described and valued at market retail value. Cash, goods, vouchers, travel, or services can be offered, but certain restricted prizes like alcohol or firearms carry extra requirements.
Tickets: Tickets must be sold at a set price, and "donation-based" raffles are not allowed unless everyone is provided the same chance to win.
Draw: The draw must be fair and random, and all eligible tickets must be included in the draw.
Authority: An authority is required for raffles with a prize pool exceeding $30,000.
Compliance: Organizers must ensure compliance with all legal requirements and follow the rules outlined in the Community Gaming Act and Community Gaming Regulation.
For more detailed information and to ensure compliance, organizations should consult the NSW Fair Trading website or seek professional advice.
